Buying a new home can be stressful but record low interest rates make now the best time to move your family into a new Belclaire home! The new average interest rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage fell below 3% this week for the first time ever – 2.98%, according to Freddie Mac’s latest Primary Mortgage Market Survey. Bringing summer camps to your Belclaire Homes backyard

Categories: Belclaire Communities, General Posts | Posted: July 23, 2020 | Comments Off on Bringing summer camps to your Belclaire Homes backyard

Sleepaway summer camps may be canceled this year but that doesn’t mean kids can’t have a great summer. After months of virtual schooling, kids need to play outside, run and grow! There are tons of activities Belclaire families can do in their backyards and create a summer camp of their own!

Here are some ideas:

Personal water park

You can easily set up a miniature water park in your yard to keep them busy while you work on a laptop (somewhere dry nearby).

Set out some sprinklers, a wading pool or a water table if you have them. If not, go low-key with some buckets and sponges. We like foam water squirters, because they are easy for little kids to fill up themselves. Just splashing around in the old baby tub with a few rubber duckies can keep some kids busy for a long time.

Kids with siblings can be set up for team games:

  • Water battleship: Fold origami boats and try to sink the other’s boat with a squirt gun at a distance.
  • Water limbo: Limbo under a running hose.
  • Water tag: Tag each other with a wet sponge.
  • Water race: Use a small cup and run back and forth across the yard to be the first to fill your bucket.
  • Water obstacle course: Dodge the sprinkler, buckets and water balloons.

Home Olympics

There are many commercial kits available, but with some creativity, you can make your own Olympic-challenge obstacle course with stuff you already have.

  • Scavenge for old pillowcases to use in a bag hop.
  • Set up cardboard boxes as hurdles.
  • Pull several jugs of water in feats of strength.
  • Include Frisbees or small balls for an accuracy toss activity.
  • Add some sit-up and push-up stations for easy, no-frill exercises.
  • Give your kids a timer so they’re motivated to keep trying the activities over and over again. With some luck, they’ll be so pooped afterward they’ll need a long nap.

 Ice-cream social

Let the kids try making their own ice cream or design their own Popsicle. Homemade pops are easy – just pour some yogurt, fresh fruit and a splash of juice in the blender, then freeze the mixture into Popsicle molds. Don’t have molds? Peel some bananas, poke a craft stick in each, dip in chocolate and freeze them on a cookie sheet. Yum!

Backyard camping

Everything is automatically more exciting if it’s done inside a tent. If you don’t have one, create your own with pillows, blankets and any available furniture.

Young children can do imaginative play, puzzles, snack or even nap. Older children can play games, journal or make crafts. Set them up for a friendly competition with a read-a-thon. While you’re at it, go ahead and set up a tent for yourself. At least it can be a place to hide and respond to some business emails for a while before you are found.

Whatever you decide to do with your family this summer, remember that you don’t have to rush from one activity to another. There’s nothing wrong with having a little bit of down time watching ladybugs crawl, reading a book or napping under the trees.

Where Belclaire families can see fireworks in DFW

Categories: General Posts | Posted: July 4, 2020 | Comments Off on Where Belclaire families can see fireworks in DFW

Fourth of July fireworks are an American tradition. While many fireworks festivals have been canceled due to social distancing, Belclaire families can still celebrate Independence Day. The skies over some North Texas areas will still light up and Dallas Morning News has rounded up a list of area locations where families can see a festive light show.

Dallas
Saturday June 27, the city of Dallas joined Klyde Warren Park to host a pre-Fourth fireworks event for front-line health care workers and their families. The park lawn will be reserved for them on an invite-only basis, but the 9:30 p.m. display will be visible throughout the surrounding area. The fireworks will be taped and shown on July 4 at 10:35 p.m. on KTVT-TV (Channel 11).

July 4th
The Colony

Fireworks will launch in the vicinity of The Five Star Complex, 4100 Blair Oaks Dr. Watch from your vehicle. Parking opens at 8:30 p.m. and fireworks begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Little Elm
Simultaneous displays will go on at about 9:30 p.m. at Little Elm Park, 701 W. Eldorado Pkwy., and near Little Elm High School, 1900 Walker Ln. Both events are ticketed and parking will be limited due to social distancing. Purchase tickets here.

McKinney
Fireworks will launch from Craig Ranch Soccer Park, 6375 Collin McKinney Pkwy. Gates open at 8:30 p.m. and visitors are asked to respect social distancing.

Fort Worth
Fireworks begin at 9:20 p.m. from Panther Island, 395 Purcey St. Remote viewing only as Panther Island Pavilion will be closed and surrounding streets will be barricaded for safety.

Add some patriotic curb appeal to your Belclaire home

Categories: Belclaire Communities, General Posts | Posted: July 1, 2020 | Comments Off on Add some patriotic curb appeal to your Belclaire home

While we’ve been spending more time at home, many Belclaire families have taken to “dressing up” their houses via community-coordinated window and sidewalk art and fun, themed décor. This Independence Day week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate America and adorn your house with a fresh and festive look.

Better Homes and Gardens gave us a few ideas. Here are our favorites:

  • Add faux firecrackers to planters and garden squares or a wreath made of white stars for a subtle nod to the Fourth of July.
  • A crisp white porch pays tribute to the flag in a casual, homey style. With an assortment of patriotic outdoor decorations, oversize bunting, a striped rug and pillows in stripes, polka dots, and gingham give the porch a classic red, white, and blue style.
  • Create a cozy outdoor seating area with red-painted chairs, a white table, a vintage tablecloth, or blue splatterware.
  • Bringing the patriotic spirit into your home is as easy as hanging an American flag. Complement the flag with red accents like potted geraniums, a vintage cooler or red-and-white linens.
  • Fourth of July decorations can be functional, too. Blue and white stripes make a great backdrop for bold red stars on a DIY Fourth of July door mat.
  • Combine your love for gardening with your Fourth of July decorations. Use an oblong blue splatterware metal container as a window flower box for bright red geraniums. Don’t mind a little rust—it adds to the character!

We look forward to seeing how Belclaire families in our communities amp up their holiday curb appeal with creative Fourth of July displays.

Trend Alert: Fresh color palettes for your Belclaire home

Will you be doing any interior design in your Belclaire home’s interior? Now that it’s officially summertime, new interior design trends are on the horizon. Elle Décor has some great insight on the color schemes they predict will dominate homes this season, from bright shades to jewel tones to sophisticated neutrals.

Here’s what we learned:

Pink and Red
Pink and red create a riotous, revelatory mix. These colorful elements combined with more neutral furnishings provide balance to the space without being overwhelming.

Summer Gold
Summer Gold is all about brightening up beige with a color that adds personality to neutral shades without being attention-grabbing. In the practice of feng shui, gold represents heaven, sunshine and warmth.

Lush Botanical Greens
This season, bright botanicals are appearing with traditional greens. Pair these colors with jewel toned greens and natural materials like rattan and wicker.

Mediterranean Hues
Beach-inspired without being overly nautical, a Mediterranean color scheme includes taupes, blues and beiges, along with coastal elements like rope and rattan.

Grape Juice
It may be summer, but shades of red wine are all the rage. The color is bold but soothing and adds richness to any space it inhabits.

Painterly Blue and White
Put some prep in your step with a blue and white striped color scheme. The delicate interplay between these colors has long been a design favorite, and it often appears in bold stripes as well as delicate, painted strokes.

Light Ikat
Incorporate ikat (fabric made using an Indonesian decorative technique in which warp or weft threads, or both, are tie-dyed before weaving) with executions ranging from throw pillows and accessories to sofas upholstered in a bold ikat. Lately, decorators are applying more subtle applications of ikat, in muted, elegant tones than in years past.

Busy Stone
Who says stone has to be silent? Busy, noisy stone patterns are seeing a comeback, whether it’s marble, granite, onyx or any number of other materials. An eye-catching center table makes a statement next to a softly hued, inviting chaise.

Five top design trends for your Belclaire home

Categories: Belclaire Communities, General Posts | Posted: June 17, 2020 | Comments Off on Five top design trends for your Belclaire home

With many families working from home lately, many are looking to design experts to revamp their space and stay up to date on the latest trends in home design. Good Housekeeping has rounded up a list of emerging trends for 2020.

Here are the top five:

Vintage Accents
What goes around comes around — especially when it comes to home decor trends. But don’t expect to see all vintage everywhere. This time around, designers are incorporating just one or two statement pieces.

Navy Blue
The 2020 Pantone Color of the Year is Classic Blue (a navy shade), which means you can expect to see a lot of the color in the new year. Fortunately, it’s totally versatile and sophisticated.

Floral Wallpaper
If the thought of flower-power wallpaper makes you flinch, then 2020 might just be the year you change your tune. They’re a particularly good choice in powder bathrooms and foyers. Plus, there are tons of stick-on options if you’re not ready to fully commit.

High-Contrast Decor
High-contrast designs are currently having a moment. For a long time, it was white, white, white, but now, for example, maybe we’d see a chair with black fabric and a white frame.
While you’re collecting those pieces of art, be sure to scout some for the kitchen. Spacious kitchen designs in American Legend/Belclaire homes allow for plenty of room to let your personality come through. Display your unique items on the kitchen island, countertops and open shelving.

Our expert builders and design team are here to help you make the most of your space, so it reflects you and your style best. Five Father’s Day gifts you can make at your Belclaire home

Categories: General Posts | Posted: June 15, 2020 | Comments Off on Five Father’s Day gifts you can make at your Belclaire home

Fathers are famously hard to shop for, especially the type who have everything and want nothing. Since Father’s Day this year will be a bit different than normal, try making something yourself, something from the heart that dad will treasure forever. Country Living has a few great ideas for DIY Father’s Day gifts.

Here are our favorites:

DIY Canvas Tool Apron
Does your dad love to fix things and do work around the house? This tool apron is the perfect DIY gift to present him with for Father’s Day. Get the tutorial at A Merry Thought.

DIY Candy Dispenser
Does Dad have a sweet tooth? Help him satisfy his cravings with this nifty DIY candy dispenser (you can even pick and choose from his favorite candies to “personalize” it further). Get the tutorial at The House of Wood.

Meyer Lemon and Pistachio Sandwich Cookies
All it takes is a roll of twine, a small box, and a bit of parchment paper to make homemade cookies into a gift fit for even the greatest dad. Bonus: These lemon and pistachio sandwich cookies happen to taste as delicious as they look. Get the recipe at Coley Cooks.

Wood Coasters
Customize some DIY coasters with one of Dad’s interests, like the hunting-themed set on Unoriginal Mom.

Grill Set Holder
Every grill master needs a place to hang his trusty tools. Plus, this DIY gift is way easier to make than it looks. Lil Luna has a great tutorial!

Whatever you decide to gift your dear dad this Father’s Day, remember that just because this year’s celebration will probably be a little bit quieter, doesn’t mean it’s any less special.
