Back-to-school tips for Belclaire families

Categories: Uncategorized | Posted: July 31, 2020 | Comments Off on Back-to-school tips for Belclaire families

Summer is flying by and back-to-school season, whether you’ll be learning at home or in the classroom, is right around the corner! We know how hard it can be to get the kids into study-mode after a long break, so here are a few tips to make the transition a little easier:

  1. Start a morning schedule
Start waking kids up at what will be their regular morning wake-up time so they can adjust to their new school-year schedule. For older children, help them set an alarm clock.
  2. Eat a healthy breakfast
A nutritious breakfast is a key component in starting the day off right. Incorporate healthy breakfast options like apples, bananas and whole grain toast. This will give them the energy they need to be mentally alert all day,
  3. Set out clothes the night before
Avoid scrambling for clothes by choosing a school outfit the night before. Get into a routine of doing this even before school starts so your child is in the habit of planning ahead.
  4. Plan a healthy lunch
In the days or weeks before school starts, plan and make your lunches for the next day each night. Even though school isn’t in session yet, or you may be lunching at home, this can help your kids get used to packing a lunch by having it labeled and ready to go each morning.
  5. Follow a lunch schedule
Help get your child’s stomach on a schedule so he or she isn’t studying hungry and distracted by eating lunch at the same time as they will when school starts.
    Make dedicated TV-free time
  6. Make dedicated TV-free time
Start getting into a homework routine now by having TV-free time during after-school hours. Use this time for a learning activity like reading a book or even talking about your day together.
  7. Play board or word games
Playing games over the summer is a great way to keep the mind engaged and focused on building learning skills.
  8. Stick to a bedtime routine
Early bedtimes are hard to enforce during the summer break, but young minds need plenty of sleep to be ready to learn. Get back into a set bedtime routine now so your child isn’t up late the night before the first day of school.
  9. Read every day
Learning doesn’t stop over the summer. Each day take at least 30 minutes to sit with your child and read together. This will help keep them engaged with learning and in the routine of daily schoolwork.
  10. Stock up on school supplies
Take your child shopping for back-to-school supplies needed to get the year off to a successful start. Shopping for backpacks, binders, and pencil cases will get your child thinking about the upcoming school year.

Just because summer is ending, the rest of the year doesn’t have to be a bore. Follow these tips and get your Belclaire family excited for the upcoming school year!

Steps to choosing the perfect bathroom flooring for your Belclaire home

Categories: Uncategorized | Posted: July 21, 2020 | Comments Off on Steps to choosing the perfect bathroom flooring for your Belclaire home

For many, the bathroom is a sanctuary where one can retreat and relax. With a bit of inspiration, Belclaire Homes can help you design the bathroom of your dreams. Flooring is one of the most important design aspects of your bathroom because it will cover more space than anything else, so it’s important you choose something you like!

Here are some things to consider when choosing your bathroom flooring:

  1. Budget
Tile comes in all shapes, sizes, styles and prices. The first step to selecting the tile that’s right for your bathroom is establishing a budget. Once your budget has been set, you’ll have a variety of options to choose from, including ceramic, porcelain and natural stone. Ceramic is the least expensive option, with porcelain being the next step up. The biggest advantage of porcelain tile is its through-body composition. If you chip a blue ceramic tile, you’ll find red below the surface, but a blue porcelain tile will be blue all the way through. Porcelain is also a more durable and water-resistant option.
  2. Color Scheme
Building a color palette can be challenging. Try starting off by choosing your cabinet and vanity colors first. Once those have been selected, you can begin building a palette for your tile. Whether you choose light or dark tiles, it’s easy to add in pops of color with accessories like towels and knobs.
  3. Tile Size
While smaller tiles were once the norm, 12x24s have become the new standard: the bigger the tile, the bigger the space seems. For those who want to stick to tradition, basket-weave and subway tiles never go out of style. To create a transitional but timeless bathroom, 4×16 subway tiles put a modern twist on the classic look.
  4. Finalize Your Look.
Carrara marble creates a classic and traditional feel, whereas metals, stainless steels, thin grout lines and rectified tiles work best in modern spaces. For a rustic approach, consider a wood-like tile flooring with white ceramic walls. If you have samples of paint, cabinets, countertops or other bathroom accessories, bring them with you to get a clear picture of what those will look like against different tones.

How to make the perfect backyard oasis in your Belclaire home

Categories: Uncategorized | Posted: July 15, 2020 | Comments Off on How to make the perfect backyard oasis in your Belclaire home

Spending time outside is a summertime staple and you can make it even more enjoyable by creating the perfect backyard oasis in your Belclaire home!

Here’s how:

Think of your backyard as an extension of your indoor space.
Treat your patio just like your other indoor spaces when you are coming up with your design plan.  Use area rugs, comfortable furniture, end tables, lighting and decorative items just like you would use if you were designing a family room – just make sure they are all weatherproof.

Define different activity zones within your space.
Before you start the actual design process, take a few minutes to visualize what you would like to use the space for.  Do you envision yourself eating outside on a regular basis?  Are you looking to create more of a quiet retreat or a place to read a book?  Or do you want a great entertainment space to enjoy with your friends and family? All of the above? Write down everything that you would like to use your space for and use that as a starting point. If everything will not fit on the patio itself, consider creating other “rooms” elsewhere in your backyard.

Anchor the space with an area rug.
Starting with a great area rug is a good place to start when designing and defining a room.  For the rest of the design, stick with the color palette from the rug and add in some complementary pieces of furniture, flowers and plants and other décor.

This time of year is perfect for enjoying a nice meal and ice cold drink at a restaurant with a sunny patio. Many restaurants remain closed due to social distancing guidelines, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a good meal outside, especially when your Belclaire home has an open outdoor living space! Country Living made a long list of delightful picnic ideas you can make all summer long. Here are a few of our favorites:

Classic Lobster Rolls
You don’t have to travel all the way to the East Coast to enjoy this beloved seafood dish. The recipe is simple to make, and the flavor is just unbeatable.

Watermelon, tomato and feta salad
If you’ve only eaten watermelon straight from the rind, this salad is about to wow your taste buds. The sweet and savory notes pair wonderfully in every single bite.

Smashed Buttermilk Potato Salad
Unlike potato chunks, smashed potatoes soak in the dressing’s rich flavor.

Bacon Lettuce Cups
Ditch the bread and focus on the good stuff (a.k.a. bacon) with these easy-to-make bites.

Old-Fashioned Lemonade
This sweet and tangy lemonade may have old in the name but it’s about to become your new go-to.

Lemon Creme Sandwich Cookies
Give store-bought cookies a homemade touch by filling them with quick and easy lemon creme.

If an at-home picnic is something you’d enjoy with your family, be sure to include an outdoor living space in your new home design. Belclaire Homes has several  floor plans to choose from that you can easily personalize to fit your family’s needs. Set up an appointment to view a model and get started on your dream home!

Categories: Uncategorized | Posted: April 1, 2020 | Comments Off on Celebrate National Walking Day the Belclaire way

National Walking Day is observed on the first Wednesday of April. According to the American Heart Association, the day is intended to remind people about health and the benefits of walking – they urge Americans to walk for at least 30 minutes every day. Even though we’re practicing social distancing, walking is still one of the healthiest activities you can enjoy on your own.

Belclaire communities feature green space and hike-and-bike trails for residents to get moving and enjoy nature (with plenty of space to be six feet away from other walkers). Be sure to check with your neighborhood association to ensure parks and trails are open during this time. If you’re unable to make it out to the trails for a walk, check out some of these at-home workouts from People Magazine.
