You may not have known that June 8th is considered Best Friends Day, but this lighthearted and fun holiday has been around since 1935 when the US congress devoted the day to paying tribute to close-knit friendships. You might think you don’t need a special day to show your best friend how much you care. We have Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Valentine’s Day, why not Best Friends Day?!
We found some great ideas for celebrating Best Friends Day both in-person and long-distance:
Watch a movie
Watching a movie you’ll both enjoy is a great way to spend time with your best friend. You can catch a new flick at the theater if you live nearby each other, or, depending on which streaming service you use, you can have a virtual watch party together!
Date night
Date nights aren’t just for significant others… they’re for best friends, too! Wine and dine your best friend with a meal out at one of their old favorites or at a new place they’ve been wanting to try.
Art class
For creative types, taking an art class together can be a great activity for best friends with plenty of options to choose from like painting, pottery, cake decorating, sewing sculpting and more!
Get active
Fitness buffs, this one’s for you. Hit a group fitness class like Zumba, Pilates or spin, go for a challenging hike or a brisk walk, followed by coffee or brunch at your favorite local spot.
Cocktails
Indulging in a craft cocktail or two may not be something your best friend would do for themselves. Take them for happy hour at a trendy cocktail bar or enjoy a DIY cocktail hour at home or over videocall.
Theme park
For adventurous friends (or those with children), visiting a theme park can be a great way for you and your best friend to feel like a kids again by enjoying the rides, playing amusing games and eating food you’ll only find at a theme park!
