Whether you’re moving north to our Canyon Falls community in Argyle or to our Windsong Ranch community in Prosper, Belclaire Homes can help you pick the right moving company. Here are a few tips for hiring a moving company for your next big move!
Do your research. You’re entrusting the movers with all your possessions; you want to make sure they are trustworthy. Ask around for recommendations. Start by making a post on your neighborhood Facebook page or Nextdoor. You aren’t the first person in your neighborhood to move. Your friends and neighbors are a great place to start. If you’re lucky several people may have rave reviews for the same company (or they might have scathing reviews for a company you will want to avoid). The internet is also a great place to start your research. Look at customer reviews and make a short list of movers that might work for you.
Contact several movers. Once you’ve made a short list, you’ll want to contact each company to get more information. We recommend getting more than one estimate. It might be a good idea to have someone come out to your home so they can get an idea of your belongings and the cost to transport them to your new home. The last thing you want is to be surprised when you get the bill! Remember to ask if the estimates are binding or nonbinding. Other things to consider are their years of experience, do they have proper licensing, are they members of any professional organizations and do they offer customized services to fit your needs (disassembly/re-assembly of furniture, crating, etc.).
Ask about insurance. Make sure the moving company you choose is bonded and insured. Proper insurance will give you peace of mind. A reputable moving company will be able to offer you adequate coverage for your belongings. Read the fine print, they may offer basic protection but it might be in your best interest to purchase additional insurance from your mover or a third-party insurance company to ensure valuable items are covered.
Read the contract and ask questions. Read the contract thoroughly and be sure you understand it BEFORE signing. The contract should include the name and address of the mover, the type of payment method it accepts, time/dates of pickup/delivery, minimum and maximum amounts to pay, rates and charges, the mover's liability for your possessions, and claims protection information. If there is something you don’t understand ask questions. Reputable companies are transparent and won’t mind taking the time to answer all your questions. Once you feel comfortable and move forward with signing, keep the contract handy in case you need to refer back to it.
Inquire about their customer support. You’ll want a moving company that has great customer support. If any issues arise such as damaged or missing items, delayed delivery or disputes over payment you’ll want a company with excellent customer support to resolve problems during or after your move. Ask your potential moving company about their dispute settlement program. How do they handle dissatisfied customers? A reputable company resolves issues efficiently and in a professional manner.
