Moving tips for new Belclaire families

Moving tips for new Belclaire families

May is the start of the busiest moving season of the year, whether it’s moving away for college, coming home from college, moving for work, buying a first home or upgrading a home. That’s why it has been designated “National Moving Month.” This time of year also offers the best moving weather. We’ve borrowed some moving tips from A Little Craft In Your Day to share with families moving into a Belclaire home. Even if you’re not moving during the busy season, it’s a good idea to start planning!

  1. Call utility companies as soon as you decide to move. This is a small task that often gets overlooked and forgotten. Make this one the first things on your moving to-do list and you won’t have to deal with it when you should be enjoying your new home!
  2. Put plastic wrap over drawers so you don’t have to empty out their contents. Creating less waste with cardboard boxes can also save you time and space during your moving experience. Plastic wrap will keep things from spilling out of dresser drawers and you won’t have to spend time packing them into several cardboard boxes.
  3. Stuff bundles of hanging clothes into garbage sacks while they’re still on the hangers. This is one of the best moving hacks there is. While clothes are hanging in your closet, just stuff them into a drawstring garbage sack and tie below the hanger’s hook. This way, you skip several steps and can hang your clothes directly into your new closet. You can also try tying a thick rubber band around the hanger hooks to keep them from moving around too much.
  4. Get rid of your junk! Moving into a new space is a fresh start that will be much simpler without extra clutter. You can have a garage sale prior to your move to sell the items you no longer want or need – you can use the extra money to buy something special for your new home! Or, if that’s too much hassle, donate the items to your favorite charity shop.
  5. Make yourself a moving key. You can make matching colored labels or stickers on each box and piece of furniture you are moving with categories like kitchen, main bedroom, living room, etc. This will make everything simple for everyone involved in the move.
  6. Put a rubber band around doorknobs. This quick and easy tip will keep doors from latching every time you carry a box out the door.
  7. If there are fragile items in a box, be sure to mark them! This may seem like an obvious tip, but it’s worth reminding so your precious and valuable items make it safely to their new home.

If you don’t have a move planned and are still in the “thinking-about-it” stage, take a look at our photo and video galleries, floor plans and communities.
